It hasn’t been very cool to see the rise of moms in the sport CrossFit. It is HARDER to be a mom competitive athlete. The demands on your time far surpass those who aren’t parents.

But it also makes you so much more adaptable.

We want to HIGHLIGHT as many moms as we can.

In this article, we’re putting the spotlight on the moms taking the field over for Semi Finals. We will then mention our moms in the Age-group category. They have already punched their ticket to the CrossFit Games.

2023 Open: 854th worldwide

2023 Quarterfinals:  275th

Quote from Maria:

To me, being a competitive mom in CrossFit means you are training not only for yourself but for your children.  Living a healthy lifestyle and demonstrating what hard work and discipline can get you is important for young children to see.  I always want to bring the healthiest and best version of myself to my son.

One of the hardest things about being a competitive crossfit mom is fighting off the “mom guilt” when I spend time away from my family.  I feel selfish spending time in the gym training for competitions but it’s important to not forget to take care of myself. My son gets to see me happy doing something I love which makes me a better mother to him when I am with him.  Sometimes I just need a reminder it is okay to take time for myself.

To be honest, I am just incredibly happy to be a mother and still be able to compete at this level.  Being a mother has motivated me to be better more than I was before becoming one.  I am fitter now than ever!

2023 Open: 4th

2023 Quarterfinals: 3rd Worldwide

Quote from Arielle:

I think what it means to be a mom in the competitive Crossfit space is to be really good at balancing a lot of things. You also have to be really good with time management. But I personally love being a mom and competing because it grounds me. I know that no matter what happens out on the competition floor. I’ll come home to a daughter who loves me.  it helps take away some pressure and keeps my perspective focused on the right things. Mentally it does so much positive things for me.

The negatives are my training looks a lot different from my other competitors and my recovery is a lot different. I’m not able to spend hours getting massages or hot plums, cold plunging because I don’t have that time in my day. I don’t get a full nights sleep, because she wakes up most nights. She keeps me humble.

2023 Open: 471

2023 Quarterfinals: 296

Quote from Laken:

Everything changes the second you become a mum. Being responsible for another human being is something no one can ever fully prepare you for. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to back on the semi finals floor but I worked really hard and I had a lot of people help me along the way. I cant believe I get to compete with my son watching me. This is all the motivation and drive I’ll need. I can’t wait to lead by example and show him anything is possible when you put your mind to it and work for it and of course have a strong support network.

I’m privileged to be a mum competing as I feel it gives me another level of grit and determination.

Hardest thing would be rest & recovery and getting all my training done is super hard

Annika Roberts - Indy

2023 Open: 355th

2023 Quartersfinals: 27th Oceania

Quote from Annika

My motivation for competing this season is to join my son Johan in the semifinals at Torian Pro this year. I think it’s quite special that a parent and child are competing at semifinals level together!

Working fulltime, being a mum to adult and school age children, and training is challenging, but it forces you to become an expert time manager!

JAY-LEE MANSY Team CrossFit Bil Athletic

2023 Open rank: 315th Worldwide

2023 Quarterfinals: 31st Oceania

Quote from Jay-lee

I’m so proud to be a mum and competitive athlete because it shows other mums out there that just because you have kids, it doesn’t mean your dreams stop. If you really want to achieve something it’s still doable, you’re still capable of achieving your personal goals. Yes the road maybe harder and a little more sacrifice may be needed to get there BUT it can be done.

I think being a mum on its own or being a competitive athlete on its own is hard. So combining the two can be very challenging at times. Being able to do both takes alot of commitment discipline, hard work and most of all sacrifice. As a parent we sacrifice a lot for our children, but as an athlete our children also have to make sacrifices for us to be able to do what we love. It can seem very selfish at times and the mum guilt hits hard but I have to make sure I try to balance it all the best I can.
